It was perfect soccer weather last Saturday morning, April 14th as last year’s State Champions, SS Lazio FC took on the Daynes Cup Champions Olympique Montreux for the coveted Super Cup to end the 2011 playing season/ Under partly sunny skies, both teams fought hard to gain the upper hand, with Lazio scoring the first goal early in the first half of the match. The Olympians soon came back to even the score, but later in the second half Lazio buried another one in the back of Olympique’s net. The intensity of the game skyrocketed from there as Olympique Montreux did their best to tie things up again before the final whistle, but to no avail. The game ended with Lazio’s win, 2:1 over Olympique Montreux. A light, misting rain began as the two teams walked off the field, the weather having held off until the deed was done, and a smiling Josh Maxfield proudly accepted the trophy for his team from Bill Bosgraaf, Utah Soccer Association president. We’re all excited to see what the upcoming 2012 playing season brings, and if the Park Bums or anyone else will step up and challenge these two powerhouse teams for this year’s 2012 Super Cup.
